SPRING VALLEY – The Spring Valley City Council honored its outgoing attorney after 28 years of service to the city.
Jim Andreoni, who served as the city’s legal voice for nearly three decades, attended his final City Council meeting Monday before stepping onto the bench as Bureau County’s newly appointed associate judge. He replaces retired Judge C.J. Hollerich.
Spring Valley Mayor Walt Marini presented Andreoni with a plaque commemorating his years of service to the city and Marini praised the longtime counsel saying throughout his tenure, Andreoni has been available any time of the day, any day of the week to advise him on legal matters regarding the city.
“He deserves a thank you from us as a council and from the citizens,” Marini said.
An emotional Andreoni said it’s the people who have served the city in elected positions that should be thanked, not himself.
“I want to thank the mayor and former Mayor Narczewski, and I can’t even name all the aldermen because I’ll forget some, but those are the people who should be thanked,” he said. “People have disagreed throughout the years without being disagreeable, and that’s really important, especially in today’s political climate.
“They’re the people who really do all the work,” Andreoni said. “I’m pretty lucky because I get to come here for my job, and I get paid for it, but the people who come here to serve are doing it for the best possible reasons.”
Andreoni will be succeeded by attorney Walt Zukowski.
