PRINCETON — Just before lunch time on Thursday, Logan Junior High students got an impromptu field trip down the block after an odor of gas in the building prompted a temporary evacuation.
Princeton Elementary School Superintendent JD Orwig, at the scene, said a maintenance worker smelled an odor of gas in the basement area of the building closest to the bus lot at approximately 11 a.m. Princeton Fire and Nicor were called and students were relocated to a nearby parking lot while the building was inspected.
The source of the smell was determined to be from a gas line undergoing maintenance, Orwig said, and it was determined there was no leak and no danger to anyone in the building.
Students were on their way back to class just before noon.
