Between boosters and mandates, Illinois’ COVID-19 vaccine average doubles in two weeks

Statewide hospitalizations showing signs of stagnating

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 6,125 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 63 additional deaths for Friday, Saturday and Sunday combined. The IDPH does not update its data dashboard during the weekends.

For Friday-Sunday, the state administered 182,735 shots. The state’s seven-day rolling average for vaccines administered is now 60,523 vaccines per day, the highest average since May 26. That is before boosters were approved and state government workers faced mandates to get vaccinated or get tested weekly.

The state received the results of 311,651 COVID-19 tests for Friday-Sunday. The state’s positivity rate went up to 2.0%.

Illinois has seen 1,701,649 total cases of the virus, and 25,834 people have died. The state has conducted a total of 35,600,267 tests since the start of the pandemic.

As of late Sunday, Illinois had 1,247 COVID-19 patients in the hospital, near the level the state has remained at since October 22. Of those, 298 were in intensive care units, and 143 were on ventilators.

Vaccine update: As of Monday, the IDPH reported a total of 18,880,165 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed statewide, with 15,725,525 vaccines administered.

As of Monday, 7,291,612 Illinoisans have been fully vaccinated, or 57.23% of the population. Illinois has a population of 12,741,080 people.

Among Illinois residents 12 and older:

Fully Vaccinated: 7,640,122 (70.5%)

At Least 1 Dose: 8,289,882 (76.5%)

Among Illinois residents 18 and older:

Fully Vaccinated: 7,097,095 (72%)

At Least 1 Dose: 7,690,298 (78%)

Among Illinois residents 65 and older:

Fully Vaccinated: 1,752,075 (85.8%)

At Least 1 Dose: 1,882,138 (92.1%)

There can be as much as a 72-hour delay in reporting from health care providers on vaccines administered.

In northern Illinois, here is the percentage of the population fully vaccinated by county:

Chicago: 59.52%

Suburban Cook: 62.87%

Lake: 59.59%

McHenry: 57.84%

DuPage: 66.49%

Kane: 57.71%

Will: 57.56%

Kendall: 59.29%

La Salle: 51.62%

Grundy: 50.31%

DeKalb: 49.95%

Ogle: 50.15%

Lee: 52.82%

Whiteside: 47.18%

Bureau: 49.68%

Regional update: All 11 regions in the state are in Phase 5.

Regional data from the IDPH remains on a three-day lag.

The North Suburban (McHenry and Lake counties) region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 2.2%. Currently, 23% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, McHenry County’s seven-day positivity rate average decreased to 2.8%. Lake County, which does about two-thirds of the testing in the region, is reporting a rolling average of 2.0%.

Hospitalizations have decreased or remained stable nine out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to a total of 74 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The West Suburban (DuPage and Kane counties) region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 2.4%. Currently, 20% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity rate stayed flat at 2.3%, and DuPage County’s stayed flat at 2.4%.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable six out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 121 total COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The South Suburban (Will and Kankakee counties) region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 2.8%. Currently, 21% of ICU beds are available.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 55 total COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The North (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 4.0%.

Currently, 21% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, DeKalb County’s positivity rate fell to 3.4%, Lee County’s rate stayed flat at 2.4%, and Whiteside County’s went down to 1.7%.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable seven out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is up to 93 total COVID-19 hospitalizations.

The North-Central (Bureau, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Kendall, Knox, La Salle, Livingston, Marshall, McDonough, McLean, Mercer, Peoria, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Tazewell, Warren and Woodford counties) region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 2.6%.

Within this region, La Salle County’s seven-day positivity rate decreased to 1.5%. Currently, 19% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for 10 out of the past 10 days. The region is down to a total of 129 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

Chicago’s positivity rate stayed flat at 1.7%. Currently, 16% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for six out of the past 10 days.

Suburban Cook County’s positivity rate increased to 2.0%. Currently, 17% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable eight out of the past 10 days in this region.
