Illinois COVID-19 hospitalizations decline to mid-November levels

State’s positivity rate drops to 2.8%

Hospitalizations and new admissions for COVID-19 are both in decline according to new data from the Illinois Department of Public Health on February 16, 2022.

Illinois has the fewest number of people in the hospital with COVID-19 since Nov. 17, according to new data from the Illinois Department of Public Health released Wednesday.

As of late Tuesday, Illinois had 1,683 COVID-19 patients in the hospital. Of those, 313 were in intensive care units, the fewest since Nov. 13, and 153 were on ventilators.

The IDPH reported 3,323 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 104 additional deaths Wednesday.

The state’s rolling seven-day average for new cases dropped to 3,701 new cases per day, the lowest average since Nov. 17. The decline in numbers comes as a legislative panel on Tuesday voted to suspend the latest version of COVID-19 mitigations for public schools, saying in part that those rules still are being litigated in a state appellate court. Many public schools throughout the state opted to go mask optional after the ruling.

For Tuesday, the state administered 19,766 shots.

The state received the results of 107,304 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday afternoon. The state’s positivity rate dropped to 2.8%
