COVID-19 patients in Illinois ICUs down to August levels

State’s positivity rate drops to 2.0%

Six days before the statewide mask mandate is scheduled to end in Illinois, the state has the fewest number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care units since Aug. 1.

As of late Monday, Illinois had 1,331 COVID-19 patients in the hospital according to new data from the Illinois Department of Public Health. Of those, 235 were in intensive care units, and 136 were on ventilators.

The IDPH reported 6,242 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 132 additional deaths for Friday through Monday. IDPH does not update its data dashboard on state holidays or weekends.

The state’s rolling seven-day average for new cases dropped to 2,184 new cases per day, the lowest average since Oct. 29.

For Friday through Monday, the state administered 68,310 shots.

The state received the results of 346,899 COVID-19 tests for Friday through Monday. The state’s positivity rate dropped to 2.0%

Illinois has seen 3,019,951 total cases of the virus, and 32,431 people have died. The state has conducted a total of 53,968,881 tests since the start of the pandemic.

Vaccine update: As of Tuesday, the IDPH reported a total of 23,734,525 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed statewide, with 21,024,696 vaccines administered.

As of Monday, 8,091,605 Illinoisans have been fully vaccinated, 63.51% of the state’s population of 12,741,080 people.

Also, 4,115,499 people have received a booster dose, or 32.3% of the state’s population. Among 5- to 11-year-olds, 38.97% have received at least one vaccine dose and 32.61% are fully vaccinated.

• Fully Vaccinated: 8,501,773 (71.3%).

• At Least 1 Dose: 9,596,555 (80.5%).

Among Illinois residents 12 and older:

• Fully Vaccinated: 8,133,785 (75.1%).

• At Least 1 Dose: 9,147,367 (84.4%).

Among Illinois residents 18 and older:

• Fully Vaccinated: 7,517,015 (76.3%).

• At Least 1 Dose: 8,454,843 (85.8%).

Among Illinois residents 65 and older:

• Fully Vaccinated: 1,783,683 (87.3%).

• At Least 1 Dose: 1,961,150 (95%).

There can be as much as a 72-hour delay in reporting from health care providers on vaccines administered.

In northern Illinois, here is the percentage of the population fully vaccinated by county:

Chicago: 66.38%.

Suburban Cook: 70.76%.

Lake: 67.84%.

McHenry: 64.19%.

DuPage: 73.85%.

Kane: 64.36%.

Will: 64.95%.

Kendall: 67.07%.

La Salle: 57.17%.

Grundy: 56.38%.

DeKalb: 55.32%.

Ogle: 55.75%.

Lee: 57.45%.

Whiteside: 50.77%.

Bureau: 55.53%.

Regional update: All 11 regions in the state are in Phase 5.

Regional data from the IDPH remains on a three-day lag.

The North Suburban (McHenry and Lake counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 3.8%. Currently, 24% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, McHenry County’s seven-day positivity rate average decreased to 4.9%. Lake County, which does about two-thirds of the testing in the region, is reporting a rolling average of 3.6%.

Hospitalizations have decreased or remained stable 10 of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 85 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The West Suburban (DuPage and Kane counties) region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 4.2%. Currently, 29% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity rate decreased to 5.0%, and DuPage County’s stayed flat at 3.8%.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 128 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The South Suburban (Will and Kankakee counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 3.4%. Currently, 21% of ICU beds are available.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 61 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The North (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 4.3%.

Currently, 14% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, DeKalb County’s positivity rate fell to 3.6%, Lee County’s rate decreased to 1.9% and Whiteside County’s went down to 4.9%.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 102 COVID-19 hospitalizations.

The North-Central (Bureau, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Kendall, Knox, La Salle, Livingston, Marshall, McDonough, McLean, Mercer, Peoria, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Tazewell, Warren and Woodford counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 3.6%.

Within this region, La Salle County’s seven-day positivity rate decreased to 3.6%. Currently, 25% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for 10 of the past 10 days. The region is down to163 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

Chicago’s positivity rate fell to 1.6%. Currently, 18% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 of the past 10 days.

Suburban Cook County’s positivity rate fell to 2.4%. Currently, 19% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 of the past 10 days in this region.
