The number of COVID-19 patients in an intensive care unit and the number of patients on a ventilator have both reached new pandemic lows, according to new data from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
As of late Wednesday, Illinois had 461 COVID-19 patients in the hospital. Of those, 58 were in intensive care units, and 22 were on ventilators.
The IDPH reported 1,592 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 19 additional deaths Thursday.
For Wednesday, the state administered 7,834 shots.
The state received the results of 99,334 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Thursday afternoon. The state’s positivity rate is 1.7%
Illinois has seen 3,068,237 total cases of the virus, and 33,377 people have died. The state has conducted a total of 57,304,799 tests since the start of the pandemic.
Vaccine update: As of Thursday, the IDPH reported a total of 25,831,845 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed statewide, with 21,354,847 vaccines administered.
As of Thursday, 8,198,033 Illinoisans have been fully vaccinated, or 64.34% of the population. Illinois has a population of 12,741,080 people.

The North Suburban (McHenry and Lake counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 2.2%. Currently, 28% of ICU beds are available.
Within this region, McHenry County’s seven-day positivity rate average increased to 2.3%. Lake County, which does about two-thirds of the testing in the region, is reporting a rolling average of 2.2%.
Hospitalizations have decreased or remained stable eight out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to a total of 22 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.
The West Suburban (DuPage and Kane counties) region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 2.7%. Currently, 32% of ICU beds are available.

The North-Central (Bureau, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Kendall, Knox, La Salle, Livingston, Marshall, McDonough, McLean, Mercer, Peoria, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Tazewell, Warren and Woodford counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 1.7%.
Within this region, La Salle County’s seven-day positivity rate increased to 1.2%. Currently, 27% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for nine out of the past 10 days. The region is down to a total of 51 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.
Chicago’s positivity rate stayed flat at 1.4%. Currently, 18% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for nine out of the past 10 days.
Suburban Cook County’s positivity rate increased to 2.0%. Currently, 23% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable eight out of the past 10 days in this region.
