GENOA – A Genoa man was hospitalized with minor injuries Monday after a single-car rollover crash, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
DeKalb County sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jim Burgh said the Genoa resident, 65, called for emergency services while still inside his overturned Honda sedan. The crash happened at Genoa and Pleasant Hill roads in Kingston Township, northwest of Genoa. No other passengers were inside the vehicle.
“He rolled and was upside down,” Burgh said. “The driver called 911. He couldn’t get out of the car ... he was just stuck, he was able to use the phone and tell us what was going on.”
Members of the Genoa-Kingston Fire Protection district also responded to the crash, and got the driver out of his overturned vehicle within 12 minutes, Burgh said.
Paramedics took the Genoa man, who suffered minor injuries, to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, according to a the sheriff’s office.
Burgh said the driver was bruised, but did not have visible injuries.
DeKalb County sheriff’s deputies to a 911 call the driver made himself at about 10:20 p.m., authorities said.
The man was driving south on Genoa Road when he lost control of his vehicle while navigating a curve in the road, according to the sheriff’s office.
After skidding into the ditch on the north side of the road, the Honda overturned onto its roof, Burgh said.
No citations were issued for the crash. Burgh said slippery road conditions likely were a factor.
“The roads were starting to freeze over, in certain areas,” Burgh said. “It wasn’t solid, it was just certain patchy spots.”
