Brooke Stonebreaker scores 18 in NIU loss: Tuesday’s Daily Chronicle sports roundup

Women’s basketball

Eastern Kentucky 76, Northern Illinois 64: At Lexington, the Huskies led by eight in the third quarter of the loss.

“We’re going to look back at the shots we got in the fourth quarter and want them back,” head coach Lisa Carlsen said. “We just were not good enough offensively in the second half to sustain the success we had in the first half. Sometimes those poor offensive possessions jumpstarted their transition game and gave them opportunities in the open court.”

Brooke Stonebreaker, the reigning MAC Player of the Week, finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Chelby Koker added 15 points and nine rebounds while Brooke Blumenfeld had 10 points and six rebounds.

Girls basketball

Stillman Valley 50, Kaneland 25: At Stillman Valley, Amani Meeks scored eight to lead the Knights in the loss to Stillman Valley (11-0).
