Alex Gregorio-Perez first for DeKalb at Morris: Saturday’s Daily Chronicle sports roundup

Girls wrestling

Morris Wrestling Invitational: At Morris, the Barbs were fourth in the 27-team event.

Alex Gregorio-Perez took first at 105 pounds, with two pins before a major decision victory in the championship match.

Reese Zimmer was second at 125, losing by a major in her final match after pins in her first three matches.

Lana Zimmerman (135) was fourth and Kara Zimmerman took fifth at 130. Jade Weiss was sixth at 100.

Whip-Purs Women’s Classic: At Hampshire, Kaneland was 12th and Genoa-Kingston was 34th in the 37-team field.

The Knights were without top wrestler Angelina Gochis. Brooklyn Sheaffer was third at 130, Dyanni Torres was fifth at 140 and Sadie Kinsella was sixth at 190.

For Genoa-Kingston, Dulce Ibarra reached the consolation semis but didn’t medal.

Boys wrestling

Russ Erb Invitational: At Glenbrook South, Sycamore was second with 171 points in a tight finish against winner Richmond-Burton (177.5), third-place Grant (168) and fourth-place Antioch (165.5).

Carson West took second at 106, suffering his first loss of the year to R-B’s Lelan Nelson on a 9-5 decision. Sawyer Davis (113), Tyler Lockhart (126), Cooper Bode (175) and Collin Hughes each took third for the Spartans.

Clyde Nott (215) took fourth for Sycamore and Jayden Dohogne was fifth (138). Thomas Lind (132) and Michael Olson (120) each took sixth.

Rex Whitlach Invitational: At Hinsdale Central, DeKalb was 17th in the 24-team field, finishing with 73 points.

Jaden Bradley took fourth at 106 for the Barbs, while Mike Hodge was sixth at 144 and Julian Hartwig took seventh at 113.

SVHS Holiday Tournament: At Stillman Valley, the Knights were ninth in the 10-team field with 68 points, although they had just five wrestlers at the event.

Alex Gochis was the champ at 144 while Apollo Gochis won at 175. Caden Vanik took fifth at 165.

Boys swimming

Sterling Invite: At Sterling, DeKalb won with 463 points to Sterling’s 356 and third-place La Salle-Peru’s 197.

Kevin Sullivan won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:10.59 and the 100 backstroke in 57.97. Matteo Graham won the 200 freestyle (1:56.87) and the 500 free (5:15.09).

Sean Harrleson won the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.38.

Girls basketball

Richmond-Burton tournament: At Richmond, Genoa-Kingston lost 50-45 to Belvidere North but beat South Beloit 67-45 to close the tournament.

Against Belvidere North, Ally Poegel scored 15 with Presley Meyer adding 13 and Natasha Bianchi 10.

Against the Sobos, Poegel scored 27 for the Cogs (7-7) and set the school record for field goals in a career, surpassing the old record of 491. She also became the career steals leader two weeks ago.
