Boys basketball

Kaneland 73, Hancock 27: At Kaneland, the hosts dominated for a nonconference victory.

Rock Falls 75, Genoa-Kingston 65: At Rock Falls, the Cogs rallied after falling behind 23-6 after one quarter, but couldn’t quite come all the way back in Big Northern Conference play.

Hayden Hodgson led the scoring with 25 points, Nathan Kleba had 20 and Marcus Johnson added 18.

Women’s basketball

Akron 73, Northern Illinois 71: The Huskies rallied late but came up just short in MAC action.

Brooke Blumenfeld led the scoring with 16 points. Laura Nickel and Chelby Koker scored 13 each and Alecia Doyle had six rebounds.

“The defensive intensity in the last five minutes was a lot better than the 35 minutes before,” head coach Lisa Carlsen said. “It’s a tough lesson but we needed to be better in the first 35 minutes to not let them get hot. [Akron] had a few players step up and we didn’t do enough to make them uncomfortable.”
