DeKALB – Traffic along Sycamore Road in DeKalb could get a bit busier in the coming months with the addition of two new businesses.
In a social media post, the city of DeKalb took time to welcome the latest additions to the business scene: Skechers and Candy Cloud.
The city’s announcement said plans have been submitted for a Skechers shoe store in the Oakland Plaza shopping center at 2371 Sycamore Road.
Once it opens, the DeKalb location will be the 19th Skechers store in Illinois.
Elsewhere in the Northland Plaza shopping center, a Candy Cloud café is expected to set up shop at 2448 Sycamore Road.
Candy Cloud specializes in boba tea, shakes and other specialty drinks.
The establishment will be run and operated by Amy Carol Bedows, Scott Bedows and Kevin Bedows.
Amy Carol Bedows said people tend to have positive things to share about Candy Cloud.
She said she’s frequented the Rockford location on many occasions.
Other Candy Cloud locations in Illinois include those in South Elgin and Glenview.
“I think it’s really popular, especially right now,” Amy Carol Bedows said. “We’re in Rockford, and there is one here, and I’m thinking it’s going to be popular up in DeKalb. I think it’s a fun place to stop with friends and just grab a drink.”
The café is expected to open in April.
“The space is very unfinished,” Amy Carol Bedows said. “We’ve got a lot of work to do in it, but I think, hopefully, we’ll be looking at April, and then we’ll be out there for the full summer, which is great. We’ll be excited for it.”
Candy Cloud will join a plaza that is already home to Five Guys.
Amy Carol Bedows said she imagines the interior of the establishment will have a modern look.
“I think part of the goal is that not only are you getting a great drink, but you’re getting a drink that is Instagram worth, and that’s going to offer those picture and photo opportunities that people like to post,” she said. “We’ll have those spaces in there.”
