Hy-Vee parts ways with Wahlburgers, including in Sycamore

79 Wahlburgers locations inside Hy–Vee stores will become Market Grilles, company announces

Hy-Vee announced it will close 79 Wahlburgers locations inside it's grocery stores, including the Sycamore storefront, and replace them with Hy-Vee Market Grille locations. The Wahlburgers signage, pictured on Jan. 29, 2025, will be gone by mid February, a company spokesperson said.

SYCAMORE – Your last chance to grab a bite to eat at Wahlburgers inside Hy-Vee in Sycamore is fast approaching, according to a news release from the Midwest grocer.

Hy-Vee, an employee-owned corporation that completes $13 billion worth of sales annually, announced on Jan. 20 plans to transition all its in-store restaurants across the Midwest to Hy-Vee Market Grille.

Tina Potthoff, Hy–Vee senior vice president of communications, confirmed with Shaw Local that this change will mean the closure of 79 Wahlburgers locations inside Hy-Vee grocery stories.

That includes the Wahlburgers inside the Hy–Vee located at 2700 DeKalb Ave. in Sycamore.

The Hy-Vee Wahlburgers location in Sycamore opened with much fanfare in August 2023. It’s set to close 17 months later.

Potthoff said that HyVee locations with Wahlburgers storefronts will see a menu change on Feb. 4, and the Wahlburgers name will be removed by Feb. 18.

After the transition is complete, Potthoff said there will be 221 Hy-Vee Market Grille locations inside the grocer’s stores. That doesn’t mean burgers are off the menu, however.

She said the quick service storefronts will feature a brand new menu focused on breakfast and burgers.

Once the restaurant change is complete, all Hy-Vee Market Grille locations will serve breakfast from 6 to 11 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on weekdays, according to the news release. Weekends will offer a special brunch menu from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Potthoff said breakfast menus will roll out in early February with lunch and dinner menus expected to follow later in the month.

All Market Grille locations will offer both dine-in and carry-out service, according to the announcement. Most locations will have counter service, where customers order at the counter and staff will bring their orders to their table.
