KINGSTON – A Genoa woman, infant, toddler and two people from Loves Park were taken to a hospital after a two-car crash east of Kingston Thursday morning, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jim Burgh said the children, a 7-week-old infant and 23-month-old toddler, were uninjured in the crash but were taken to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital for precautionary measures.
The other three people involved in the crash suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to officials. One of the drivers was flown by helicopter to a Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred at 8:35 a.m. at the intersection of Route 72 and Pleasant Hill Road, according the Sheriff’s office news release. A 2016 Nissan Sentra, driven by a 59-year-old Loves Park woman and her 35-year-old passenger, was headed south on Pleasant Hill Road, while a 2016 Mazda CX5, driven by a 33-year-old Genoa woman with the two children as passengers, was headed east at the time of the crash.
While the driver of the Nissan was flown by helicopter to a Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford, their passenger was taken to OSF St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford by the DeKalb Fire Department, according to the news release.
The Genoa woman driving the Mazda was taken to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital by the Genoa-Kingston Fire Department, according to the news release.
Burgh said the DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputy assigned to the case has not yet finished his investigation into the crash.
“He said that he’s still waiting to talk to one of the drivers who went to the hospital,” Burgh said. “He wants to talk to that person before any decisions are made on citations.”
The Genoa police, Kingston police and Sycamore fire also assisted DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies with the crash.
