Kishwaukee College to host business training events

Workshops offered beginning February through March

MALTA – Kishwaukee College will host several workshops and training events to support local businesses and employees this spring.

The free events are funded by an Illinois Community College Board Noncredit Workforce Training Grant, according to a news release.

The grant’s goal is to increase the responsiveness to employer needs and workforce strategies . The grant also will help build capacity and strengthen the influence of community colleges’ noncredit workforce training.

The training events include:

  • Building Workplace Dynamics Workshop: February through March. Attendees will learn how to define and identify dynamics that influence team interactions and organizational structures, learn how unconscious biases impact workplace relationships, and develop workplace culture improvement strategies. Instructors include workforce development trainer Betsy Petrie, Kishwaukee College Associate Vice President of College Relations LaCretia Konan, and Kishwaukee College Student Engagement Director Rosy Cordero.
  • Crucial Conversations Training: Elevating Dialogue Skills: Participants can learn how to handle challenging conversations, foster stronger relationships and drive better personal and professional results.
  • Workplace Principles and Values Training: online via Pathful Explorer. The course will explore working with others and workplace intelligence, communication, behavior and etiquette. Attendees also will receive a micro-credential and completion certificate. The training lasts 10 to 15 hours.
  • Business Growth Academy: 6:15 to 8:15 p.m Feb. 27 through April 10 via Zoom or at the DeKalb Public Library, 309 Oak St. The series is intended for open business owners generating revenue. The course will be led by Jock Sommese.
