Third annual Prom Rewind in DeKalb to benefit Barb Food Mart

Festivities begin at 7 p.m. on April 5 at Egyptian Theatre downtown

Guests stroll into the Egyptian Theatre for Prom Rewind 2023.

DeKALB – It will be a night to be remembered for all.

On April 5, the Egyptian Theatre will host the third annual Prom Rewind to help support Barb Food Mart. The festivities will all begin at 7 p.m.

Organizers said the event serves as one of the food pantry’s largest fundraisers of the year.

Barb Food Mart Director Denise Salihoglu said the idea behind Prom Rewind is simple.

“Prom Rewind is a chance for adults to relive their prom experience, whether you weren’t able to go to prom in high school, you just didn’t go with the right person, you didn’t wear the right outfit,” Salihoglu said. “Any of these reasons or you just really want a night out. It’s a chance for adults to come together, to dance, to have some cocktails, to have a great time while supporting Barb Food Mart.”

The festivities will take place at the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St. Attendees can expect to find a live DJ, photo opportunities and a bar.

Salihoglu said it’s a nice atmosphere that they create there for the evening.

Tickets cost $40 each. For $100, a couple can purchase two tickets, a souvenir Prom Rewind frame and one ticket to the photo booth.

In the event’s inaugural year, Prom Rewind sold out with 300 attendees.

Salihoglu said the food pantry hopes to have some success this year.

“All the money that we raise goes directly to the Barb Food Mart and where we spend that money is food for families,” Salihoglu said. “All the money that we raised at prom last year – we raised $15,000 – it all goes to buying food for families."

Once prom is over, the party doesn’t have to stop there.

Salihoglu said there is a post-prom event for an additional $10 to be hosted on the top floor at El Jimador Mexican Grill, 260 E. Lincoln Highway.
