5 things to do in DeKalb County: Outdoor adventures, Valentine’s Day, The Second City and more

1. Celebrate Valentine’s Day with dinner and a movie - Friday, Feb. 11 through Monday, Feb. 14 at The Village Restaurant and Sycamore State Theater in Sycamore

The Dinner and a Movie Special will include dinner for two as well as two movie tickets for $45 plus tax. Enjoy your choice of one appetizer, two entrées, two sides and soup or salad. After your meal, head next door to the theater to catch your choice of our two new-release movies, “Moonfall” or “Marry Me.”


2. Catch a performances of “The Vagina Monologues” - 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11 and Saturday, Feb. 12 at Stage Coach Theatre, 126 S. Fifth St. in DeKalb

Tickets cost $5 each with the proceeds going to Safe Passage. Donations of money and hygiene products also will be accepted at the shows.

Guests will be required to wear masks covering both their nose and mouth.

3. Laugh the night away with The Second City - 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12 at The Egyptian Theatre, 135 S. Second St. in DeKalb

The Second City will bring their newest show, “The Absolute Best Friggin’ Time of Your Life,” to DeKalb. The show is intended for mature audiences.

Tickets start at $27, with a $5 discount available for students and seniors age 65 and older.

4. Hit the slopes (sled hill) with the children and some snowboard lessons for Outdoor Adventures Snowboard Clinic – noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 12 at Hopkins Sled Hill, DeKalb. Noon lesson was added. These beginner lessons are for children ages 3 and older.

5. Ice skate together for Valentine’s Day - 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14 at Northern Illinois University’s Rec Center Outdoor Ice Rink in DeKalb

Have you ever wanted to learn how to ice skate, but have been nervous to try? Now is your time to fail gloriously in front of your special someone. Listen to some tunes while you glide around on the ice. Ice skate rental and sweet treats are included in the registration. Bring a mask to wear while participating in this event.

Cost is $5 for NIU students and $7 for non-students. Register online through Fusion.
