High school sports roundup for Monday, May 17

Brooklynn Snodgrass homered, singled and drove in two runs, and Sycamore rallied to defeat visiting Sandwich, 5-3, in Interstate 8 Conference softball action Monday.

Trailing 3-2, the Spartans scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Chelsea Born was 2 for 3 for Sycamore, which got doubles from Rebecca Allen (two RBIs) and Tia Durst. Allen (3-5) pitched four scoreless innings and earned the win.

Kaneland 10, Rochelle 0: At Kaneland, McKenna Ryan allowed only two hits over six innings, striking out five and walking none, and Danyelle Borysiewicz homered in the first inning of the Interstate 8 game.

Kaneland scored six runs in the first inning, highlighted by RBI hits from Olivia Ortegel, Delaney Douglas, Emily Olp and Borysiewicz. Abby Latka, Rose Roach, Mackenzie Hardy, Stoker and Borysiewicz had multiple hits for the Knights.

Waubonsie Valley 5, DeKalb 2: At Waubonsie Valley, the Barbs couldn’t get the bats going until the sixth inning, when Abby Stoffa scored on Ava Jensen’s triple to the left-center gap.

Bella Barker scored Jensen on a single to right, but that’s all the offense the visitors managed in the DuPage Valley Conference game.

Genoa-Kingston 6, Mendota 5: At Mendota, Kiki Mitchell was the winning pitcher, firing four innings, striking out three and walking one in the Big Northern contest.

Carly Kline went 2 for 3, and Amber Fellows was 2 for 2 to lead Genoa-Kingston’s offense. Christine Venditti, Grace Galick and Mitchell all picked up RBIs.

BASEBALL

Neuqua Valley 12, DeKalb 3: At DeKalb, the Barbs trailed, 7-0, early and never recovered in the DVC contest.

Michael Clayton, Ashton Gates and Nate Nunez (2 for 3) doubled for DeKalb.

Genoa-Kingston 7, Mendota 2: At Genoa-Kingston, the Cogs scored four runs in the sixth inning to pull away in the Big Northern Conference game.

Ethan Wilnau was 2 for 3 with a double, run scored and two RBIs for Genoa-Kingston. Ben Franson picked up the win, going 5⅓ innings and giving up one earned run on three hits with 12 strikeouts.

Indian Creek 11, Hinckley-Big Rock 3: At Indian Creek, Brennen McNally picked up his third win of the season, and Logan Suddeth was 4 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs for the Timberwolves in the Little Ten Conference game.

Gage Oleson went 2 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs for Indian Creek (5-8, 5-2), and Zack Bogle was 2 for 4 with three RBIs.

BOYS TENNIS

Kaneland 3, Aurora Central Catholic 3: At Kaneland, the nonconference dual meet ended in a draw.

Kaneland received victories from Aden Mumm (No. 1 singles), Moses Kim (No. 3 singles) and Nathan Baumgartner/Matt Manugas (No. 3 doubles).
