Danny Curran, DeKalb
Wrestler | Senior
Why Curran was selected
The 132-pounder was named the outstanding wrestler at the lower weight classes at the DuPage Valley Conference Tournament on Saturday in a dominating performance. In an online poll, he defeated DeKalb-Sycamore swimmer Jacob Gramer, Sycamore basketball player Faith Feuerbach and Sycamore wrestler Lincoln Cooley.
Curran on his DVC performance:
“I kind of wanted to work my attacks, not let anyone breathe or relax. I just worked on my techniques and imposed pressure and came out flawless. I wasn’t thinking about outstanding wrestler until I was presented with it. It was unexpected but fun.”
On his individual goals for the postseason:
“My individual goal is to be a state champion. I’ve got a couple tough opponents in the state series, but I feel prepared and feel like I can win a state title.”
On the team goals:
“We just got promoted to the No. 1 team in the state [in the IWCOA poll], so we’re trying to live up to that expectation and win ourselves a team title for the first time in a couple decades, I think.”
