Update: One dead after crash involving semi at Peace and Fairview in DeKalb

Portion of Peace Road closed for several hours Friday due to multiple vehicle crash

DeKALB - A DeKalb man is dead after a crash involving a semi-trailer truck and sedan Friday.

Peace Road, including access to I-88, was blocked for about two and a half hours after the crash, which occurred about 11:30 a.m. The two-vehicle accident involved a semi-trailer truck carrying gravel and a gold 2009 Chevrolet sedan at the intersection of Peace Road and Fairview Drive.

Charles Perkins, 30, of DeKalb was pronounced dead at the scene, DeKalb Deputy Sheriff Jim Burgh said. Perkins, who was a passenger in the sedan, was not wearing a seatbelt, according to a press release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Three others, including another passenger in the Chevrolet and the driver of the semi-trailer truck, were also injured and taken to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital.

Burgh said witnesses who watched the crash occur told deputies that the semi-trailer was traveling northbound on Peace Road. The semi went to turn westbound on Fairview Drive when the Chevrolet, traveling southbound on Peace Road, failed to yield the right of way, Burgh said.

Simon Delosrios, 26, of Belvidere was driving the Chevrolet, Burgh said. Eleuterio Carbajal of Hebron was driving the semi-trailer.

James Jackson, 20, of DeKalb was the other passenger in the Chevrolet. He was also transported by ambulance to Kishwaukee, then airlifted to OSF Saint Anthony’s in Rockford, Burgh said.

Burgh said all three suffered non-life-threatening injuries. According to the sheriff’s office news release, they all were wearing seatbelts.

Peace Road was shut down from Macom Drive to the south and Gurler Road to the north following the crash, according to a city of DeKalb emergency alert, which was sent about 11:56 a.m. The road was reopened about 2:23 p.m.

The accident remains under investigation. No one involved has been charged in the crash as of Friday, according to the sheriff’s department.
