4th suspect in Sycamore Walgreens armed robbery believed to be driving stolen Acura: police

Gun recovered from scene was modified to shoot in fully-automatic mode, according to Sycamore police

SYCAMORE – Sycamore police said they believe a black Acura vehicle recently reported stolen from Iowa was driven by a fourth person who got away after a group of teenagers targeted prescription drugs during an armed robbery Friday at a Walgreens.

According to a Monday news release from the Sycamore Police Department, detectives identified a black 2020 Acura RDX which was reported stolen Jan. 28 in Des Moines, Iowa. Police believe the Acura was involved in the armed robbery and was driven by a fourth person who has since evaded capture.

Three arrests were already made in the incident, including two teenaged minors and an 18-year-old.

“Investigators are following up on leads on the identity of the fourth suspect, who is believed to have been driving the stolen vehicle which fled the scene when officers responded to the armed robbery on Feb. 11,” police wrote in the release.

Police also found one of the firearms which they believe was used by the teenagers in the armed robbery. A 9mm firearm was found, though it didn’t have a serial number, according to the release.

“The firearm had been modified so it had the capability to fire in fully automatic mode,” police wrote. “When the firearm was recovered, it was loaded with a 32 round magazine.” Police believe three guns were involved in the robbery.

Sycamore detectives are in contact with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, the release states, along with law enforcement from Beloit and Janesville, Wisconsin and Rockford. Investigators are attempting to determine if those involved in the Walgreens robbery are linked to any criminal activities up north.

Mikevion C. Ingram, 18, of the 100 block of Flintride Drive in Rockford was arrested and charged with armed robbery, a Class X felony, and attempted armed robbery, a Class 1 felony. If convicted of the more serious Class X felony, Ingram could face up to 30 years in prison. He is being held at DeKalb County Jail on a $600,000 bond handed down by DeKalb County Judge Stephanie Klein Saturday. Ingram would have to pay $60,000 to get out of jail. He’s scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. Thursday for a bond reduction hearing.

According to DeKalb County court documents, Sycamore police responded to a 6:30 a.m. Friday call about an armed robbery at Walgreens, 1340 DeKalb Ave. When inside the store, police encountered three teenagers who were displaying handguns. Police caught two after the robbers fled in different directions.

A third, later identified as Ingram, fled to a next door hotel, records allege.

“Another 911 call came in from the Country Inn and Suites, 1450 S. Peace Road in Sycamore, stating they were being robbed,” according to court documents. Police allege Ingram pointed his gun at three different hotel employees and demanded their keys.

Police found Ingram in the hotel’s laundry room and arrested him, records state. He was wearing a black mask, hood and black rubber gloves. Police found a plastic bag with cash in a washing machine and a loaded gold-colored handgun in a nearby trash can, records show.

Surveillance video footage from the Walgreens showed Ingram and two teenaged minors taking part in the robberies, according to court documents. Ingram and two others – a 16-year-old boy from Rockford and a 15-year-old boy from Beloit, Wisconsin – robbed two Walgreens employees and two pharmacy technicians at gunpoint, police claim.

According to court documents, Ingram later admitted to Sycamore police that he took part in the Walgreens robbery and attempted to take keys from hotel employees.

DeKalb County State’s Attorney Rick Amato said Saturday his office is still trying to determine whether the two minors accused of participating in the robbery will be charged as adults.

No shots were fired or injuries reported during the Friday incidents, according to Sycamore police.
