Boil order lifted for north side of Malta after crews repair water main break

The Village of Malta issued a drinking water boil order after the Tuesday ice storm led to power outages in the area that affected water treatment equipment.

MALTA - A boil order issued Friday for Malta residents has been lifted Saturday morning, according to an update from the Village of Malta.

The order was issued for residents living north of the railroad tracks while crews work to repair a water main break on North Third Street. A Saturday announcement said the order was lifted as of 7:53 a.m.

“Malta Residents can stop boiling water laboratory samples came back satisfactory,” the alert sent by Malta Comptroller and Administrator Debbie Lang. “Residents have been notified.”

The boil order was to remain in effect until laboratory sampling confirms that water quality has been fully restored, according to a Friday news release from the village.

The order was issued Friday because of what the village said was the possibility of unsafe water. Residents were asked to boil any type of drinking water for at least five minutes to make it safe for consumption.

The order included water for drinking, making ice cubes, washing foods, brushing teeth, or any other activity involving consumption of water.
