Sycamore man charged with attempted murder after woman refused to have sex with him, police say

SYCAMORE - A Sycamore man is facing attempted first degree murder charges after police say he beat a woman and choked her, allegedly telling her he wanted her dead because she refused to have sex with him.

According to a news release from the Sycamore Police Department, Timothy R. Geiken, 35, of the 400 block of South Locust Street in Sycamore, is charged with attempted first degree murder, a Class X felony. If convicted, Geiken could face up to 30 years in jail and fines up to $25,000. According to DeKalb County court records, Geiken is also facing charges of domestic battery and aggravated domestic battery.

Geiken also previously served five years in Illinois prison after pleading guilty to a December 2011 burglary of a GameStop in the 2500 block of Sycamore Road, court records show.

Geiken was arrested on Aug. 9 after the incident which police say occurred on Aug. 6.

According to Sycamore police, on Aug. 7 Sycamore officers met with the victim, a 27-year-old woman who told police that on Aug. 6 Geiken had allegedly kicked and punched her in the face, stomped on her head and stomach and attempted to strangle her, while making statements about wanting her dead because she refused to have sex with him.

Geiken was charged initially with aggravated domestic battery and arrested and taken to the DeKalb County Jail on the morning of Aug. 9. The additional first degree murder charges were filed Friday, as the investigation continued.

Geiken will next appear before a DeKalb County judge for a bond hearing on the charges.
