DeKALB - A man was shot in the early morning hours Friday on the city’s north side, said DeKalb Police Chief David Byrd.

DeKalb police were called to the 1100 block of Varsity Boulevard shortly after midnight Friday, and found a man who had been struck in the ankle by gunfire, Byrd said. The man suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital, Byrd said.

“It looks like there might have been a previous altercation of some type,” Byrd said. “We don’t have any persons of interest at this point that we can identify. This is ongoing. Our detectives are looking into it.”

Byrd said officers located about 10 shell casings around the scene near Varsity Boulevard.

No arrests have been made in the case yet, Byrd said, and the shooting remains under investigation by the DeKalb Police Department.

This is a developing story which could be updated as more information becomes available.
