DeKALB – A Chicago man has been arrested after a woman accused him of driving into her with his car during a recent domestic dispute.
Mark Hooper, 24, of Chicago, was arrested and charged with domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor. If convicted, Hooper could be sentenced to up to a year in jail. He had a court hearing on Tuesday.
According to court documents, Hooper allegedly got into an argument with a woman, who alleged Hooper drove his vehicle into her and caused her to fall on the ground and scrape her left palm. Police noted a fresh scrape on the woman’s hand when responding to the call at 11:48 p.m. Sept. 29 in the 900 block of Ridge Drive.
However, Hooper claimed that, during the argument, he was attempting to leave but the woman jumped onto the hood of his vehicle and rolled off the hood and fell to the ground when the vehicle stopped, according to the documents.
“On Sept. 30, I reviewed surveillance video and I could see Mark’s vehicle pulling forward, then stopping, and [the woman] falling off the hood of the vehicle and onto the ground,” court documents state. “Mark then leaves the area.”
Hooper also was charged for failure to appear in court related to a criminal trespassing incident in May 2021.
DeKalb County Judge Philip Montgomery set a $3,000 recognizance bond for Hooper in court on Tuesday, meaning Hooper was released on his signature. He also ordered Hooper to have no contact with the woman until further court order.
Hooper is due back in court at 10:15 a.m. Feb. 1 via Zoom.
