SYCAMORE – The recently appointed DeKalb County Sheriff officially has announced his candidacy for the office in the 2022 election, according to an announcement from his campaign.

DeKalb County Sheriff Andy Sullivan was appointed as the sheriff in August 2021, following the retirement of longtime former sheriff Roger Scott. Sullivan’s appointment ends Nov. 30, when Scott’s term was set to expire.

Sullivan previously said in August he planned to begin his campaign for the sheriff’s office election. He will be running for the office as a Republican, according to his campaign.

Sullivan has worked in the sheriff’s office for 26 years, according to a recent news release.

“I will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to build a stronger and safer community together,” Sullivan said in the release.

Scott said in the release he worked alongside Sullivan throughout his whole 26-year career. He said he was honored to have Sullivan as sheriff’s chief deputy for more than six years through several difficult cases.

“Andy’s knowledge, experience, integrity and strong work ethic are just a few of the many character qualities that make him the right and best individual to lead the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office today and into the future,” the former sheriff said in the release.

Sullivan was born and raised in DeKalb – graduating from St. Mary Catholic School and DeKalb High School – and lives in the city with his wife, Kelly.

Sullivan has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and leadership management and a graduate certificate in public management from Northern Illinois University. He also is a graduate of the FBI National Academy for law enforcement.
