The DeKalb District 428 school board is about to get three new faces, as unofficial results Tuesday showed Amanda Harness, the top vote earner, followed by Ariel Owens and Deyci Ramirez.

Tuesday’s Consolidated Election determined three new members of DeKalb School Board and four new members of the Sycamore School Board.

Three DeKalb School Board members chose to not run for re-election: Jeff Hallgren, Valerie Pena-Hernandez and Victoria Newport. Five candidates vied for the three empty spots: Anthony “Tony” Martin, Ariel Owens, Deyci Ramirez, Jose Jaques and Amanda Harness.

There remain 136 outstanding vote-by-mail ballots yet to be counted, according to the DeKalb County Clerk & Recorder’s Office.

Tuesday evening’s unofficial results, with the early voting and vote by mail included, are: Harness with 2,517 votes, or 23.12%; Owens with 2,220 votes, or 20.39%; Ramirez with 2,183 votes, or 20.05%; followed by Jaques with 2,074 votes, or 19.05%; and Martin with 1,894 votes, or 17.40%.

Sycamore

Only two candidates were on the ballot to fill the four Sycamore School Board seats. Eric Jones had 920 votes with 53.96% and James Chyllo had 785 votes or 46.04%.

Write-in candidates for election races will be counted by election judges, and the official election results will be released by the DeKalb County Clerk in two weeks on April 20.
