KINGSTON - One person was flown to a Rockford hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash involving a semi tractor-trailer truck and a car, said DeKalb County Chief Deputy Any Sullivan Monday.

Sullivan said as of 7:15 p.m. Monday there is no update on the driver’s condition at this time.

According to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred shortly after 8 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Route 72 and Pleasant Hill Road in Kingston Township.

Though the accident remains under investigation, officials reported that the driver of a Mazda 3, headed south bound on Pleasant Hill Road, reportedly disregarded a stop sign and collided with the semi which was traveling eastbound on Route 72.

The driver of the Mazda, who Sheriff’s officials said they’re not identifying at this time, was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the release. The driver had to be extricated by paramedics from the Genoa-Kingston Fire Department from the car and was flown by helicopter to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford with critical injuries.

The driver of the semi tractor-trailer truck, Salvador Lara, 45, of Maywood, did not report any injuries. Lara is charged with having no valid safety test for the semi, the report shows.

The account of the crash was corroborated by a witness on the scene, according to sheriff’s deputies.
