DeKALB - Muslim members of the DeKalb community are inviting the community to come out to an open house Saturday, Aug, 21, to learn more about their Muslim neighbors and dispel myths through food, fellowship and conversation. It’s a free event open to all.
The free event with free parking Mosque Open house for Non-Muslims runs from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Islamic Center of DeKalb, 801 Normal Avenue.
Hosted by the DeKalb Muslim community and GainPeace, the special event will provide an opportunity for the attendees to meet their Muslim neighbors, ask questions, clear misconceptions, dispel popular stereotypes, and create lasting friendships.
The program includes:
-11 a.m. to noon: welcome, complimentary lunch, henna design, face painting and an Islamic Arts Exhibition
-noon to 1 p.m.: A short presentation, myths vs. facts, Islams and Muslims Q&A and final remarks
-1 to 1:30 p.m.: Guests are welcome to witness Muslim prayer and get a tour of the mosque.
