Sycamore appoints new deputy fire chief

SYCAMORE - The Sycamore Fire Department has a new deputy fire chief, after the city council approved the appointment during Monday’s meeting.

Dan Rink has been named the new Deputy Fire Chief in Sycamore, and was sworn in during Monday’s Sycamore City Council meeting.

According to a social media post, Rink has been a firefighter since 1995, when he started with the Batavia Fire Department where he served for three years. He then spent 23 years with the Elgin Fire Department where he served as a firefighter and paramedic, lieutenant, captain, battalion chief and then assistant chief.

Throughout his career, Rink has served as an instructor for the Elgin Regional Fire academy, worked with record management systems, served as a grade school fire safety educator, a dive team member, a strategic plan member, a Ground Emergency Medical Transportation (GEMT) data coordinator, worked with EMS supplies management, was a member of the Elgin Association of Firefighters and also served as the IAFF Local 439 Shop Steward.

Rink has lived in Sycamore for 18 years, is married to Jennifer and has three children.
