Fire causes $100K worth of damage at Tate & Lyle in Sycamore

SYCAMORE – A Sycamore business was damaged by fire this week, according to officials with the Sycamore Fire Department.

No injuries to employees or firefighters were reported in the blaze, which caused about $100,000 worth of damages to manufacturing equipment inside Tate & Lyle Custom Ingredients Inc., 1631 S. Prairie St. in Sycamore.

Sycamore firefighters were called to Tate & Lyle about 11:16 a.m. Monday after an automatic fire alarm went off, according to a news release from the fire department.

When crews arrived, employees of the building said there was a fire in a dust collection ventilation duct, the release states.

Firefighters worked to put out the flames, which were found in a mixing machine inside the facility, according to the Sycamore fire investigation.

Crews remained on the scene checking the duct work and cleaning the area.

The DeKalb Fire Department and the Sycamore Police Department assisted with extinguishing the fire.

Officials said the fire appears to be accidental.

Tate & Lyle Custom Ingredients, Inc. was founded in 2006. The company’s line of business includes manufacturing prepared foods and miscellaneous food specialties.
