Since the Daily Chronicle printed a letter from a “heart broken” female voter on Dec. 3, 2024, who called our newly-elected President a “monster,” it prompted me to respond with this letter regarding my unique Presidential voting experience this year.
First, I love our U.S. democracy and would not change it for any other countries system. It may not be perfect, but it still works well most of the time. We also have the option to improve it.
Second, I was not impressed with either of hte candidate this year. What happened to individuals like Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, John Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan to just mention a few?
So, I decided for the first time in my life to write-in my best choices for President and Vice-President.
I chose my cousin, John Dale, for President. He is a newly retired preacher, a perfect example of an honest resident and community leader in Murray, Kentucky.
My choice for Vice-President was Arnold Hildebrand who is a successful farmer is Stafford, Kansas (my wife’s cousin). I have felt farmers would make wonderful pliticians since they work extremely hard every day until the task is correctly finished. And they are honoest.
In Illinois, I knew my vote would not have any impact on the final results, but I felt great about my decision this year. I did tell both of my candidates what I was doing.
My only hope is when we get to subsequent Presidential elections, the Parties will select the best possible candidates who are honest, hardworking, humble, law-abiding and loving. That is what our democracy needs for leadership.
