Roundup: Girls teams continue IW Holiday Hoops; Boiler boys fall by two

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Iroquois West Holiday Hoops Gardner-South Wilmington 44, Judah Christian 23

The Panthers picked up a win in tournament play on Monday to advance to Wednesday’s championship. They improved to 4-10 on the season and went 3-3 over their last six games after a 1-7 start to the season.

Maddie Simms had a big night and led the team with 25 points. Madison Wright scored seven points while Aubrey Male added five points.

Herscher 41, Wilmington 34

The Tigers got a nice win in tournament play on Monday, fighting off a fourth-quarter push from the Wildcats after leading by 16 after three quarters. They improved to 10-3 on the season while the Wildcats fell to 9-4 with the loss.

Herscher was led by Anistin Hackley with a game-high 13 points. Elsie Hoffman finished with 12 points and RyLyn Adams had eight.

For Wilmington, Skylar Rossow and Sami Liaromatis tied for the team lead with 10 points apiece.

Central 50, Peotone 23

The Comets downed the Blue Devils in tournament play to improve to 7-6 overall on the season. Peotone dropped to 1-10 on the season with the loss.

Central was led by Alexis Prisock with 13 points. Eriannah Martinez and Gracie Schroeder both scored nine points.

No stats were immediately available for Peotone.

Regular Season Donovan-St. Anne 63, Illinois Lutheran 44

The Wildcats moved back over .500 in River Valley Conference play with Monday’s road win. They improved to 3-2 in conference play, after losing their previous two RVC games, and 7-5 overall.

Chloe Ponton filled the stat sheet with 20 points, eight rebounds and seven steals. Laylah Lou Walters 16 points with four rebounds, four assists and five steals. Tiffany DeYoung had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Bailey Henneike neared one with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Manteno 62, Streator 37

The Panthers stayed hot with a road Illinois Central Eight conference win on Monday. They improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

Lila Prindeville led the team with 17 points to go with four steals. Maddie Gesky posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Emily Horath had 10 points and eight rebounds. Macy Iwanus and Bella Gigliello had eight points apiece.

Cissna Park 53, Georgetown-Ridge Farm 28

After suffering just their second loss of the season on Saturday, the Timberwolves bounced back at home Monday with a Vermilion Valley Conference win. They improved to 9-2 (2-0) on the season.

Addison Lucht’s eight rebounds led the team, as did Josie Neukomm’s four assists. Mady Marcotte scored six points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Naperville Central 50, Bradley-Bourbonnais 48

The Boilermakers dropped a close non-conference contest on the road Monday night. It was their second loss in a row after a 6-0 start to the season, putting their record at 6-2.

In typical fashion, Nick Allen led Bradley-Bourbonnais with 26 points in the game.

Watseka Holiday Tournament

Hoopeston 46, Cissna Park 44 (Seventh-place game)

The Timberwolves trailed by five points entering the fourth quarter of Monday’s tournament contest before ultimately coming up short in a comeback bid. The loss dropped them to 3-9 on the season.

Seth Walder led the team with 16 points and Dierks Neukomm had 13 points.

Iroquois West 63, Trinity 57 (Ninth-place game)

The Raiders held on for a close tournament win Monday to improve to 4-8 on the season. It was their second win in a row after a three-game losing streak. Trinity fell to 8-5 on the season.

Iroquois West was led by Beau Howe with 23 points. Kobie Hendershot added nine points and Mario Andrade had eight.

For Trinity, Vinny Hendrix posted a big double-double with 23 points and 15 rebounds. Akira Hori scored 14 points.

Milford 58, Donovan 28 (11th-place game)

After three straight close losses, Bearcats broke through in tournament play to pick up their first win of the season on Monday. The improved to 1-8 on the season while Donovan fell to 2-9 with the loss.

For Milford, three players scored in double figures. Caleb Clutteur had 21 points, Tyler Runner had 11 points and Beau Wright had 10.

Donovan was led by Jacob Onnen with seven points while Joel Tiffany had six and Braden Klecan had five.
