KANKAKEE — An earlier Tuesday morning fire caused an estimated $75,000 in damages to two Kankakee homes.

Kankakee Fire Chief Bryan LaRoche said at approximately 2:30 a.m., they were called to 510/512 S. Indiana Ave.

Upon arrival, they discovered heavy fire from the first floor window, exposing the home next door. The fire extended into the second floor of the original structure, LaRoche said.

There was moderate damage to the other residence.

The families were displaced. There were no injuries, LaRoche said.

The fire is under investigation and appears to be electrical and misuse of an extension cord, LaRoche said.

Kankakee firefighters were assisted by multiple fire agencies. Crews were on scene for about 90 minutes, LaRoche said.
