Big Lots at 185 S. Kennedy Drive in Bradley is remaining open, but it is on the list of stores that are closing.
A recorded message on its local phone number said the store is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily until all the merchandise is gone. Most items are marked down for sale.
The 50,000-square-foot store has been open for several years when it took over 30,000 square feet of the former Festival Foods grocery store. The Bradley store is one of 17 in Illinois. As of Dec. 19, Big Lots had 963 stores nationwide.
Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October, and the company has already closed more than 400 stores in 2024. A last ditch effort was made by Gordon Brothers and Variety Wholesalers, who saved between 200 and 400 stores to save some of the stores. The Bradley site was not included in that sale.
