A cold weather advisory is in effect until noon today.
Today’s weather in Kankakee County is predicted to be sunny and very cold, with a high near 3 degrees and wind chill values as low as minus-23 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures are predicted to rise after school hours.
School closure announcements were made early Monday via school websites and Facebook.
Kankakee School District 111 is implementing a Learning Anywhere, Anytime day, with all district buildings to remain closed; extracurricular activities and practices are expected to continue as scheduled.
Bishop McNamara Catholic School is implementing an e-learning day, but afternoon activities may proceed as scheduled as temperatures rise and the advisory ends; families are instructed to check for updates from coaches.
Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School will not be holding school today, but extracurricular activities are still slated to take place, pending temperature changes throughout the day.
Bradley Elementary School District 61 also announced school will not be in session, with the instructional day to be made up at the end of the school year.
Bourbonnais Elementary School District 53 has closed schools; the status of school activities and events is to be communicated by the district’s athletic director and coaches.
St. Anne Unit District 24 is closing schools today as well.
Manteno Community Unit School District 5 will be using a remote learning day, but extracurricular activities are anticipated to continue as scheduled.
Herscher Community Unit School District 2 will have no in-person attendance for any of its schools but rather will hold its first e-learning day of the school year.
St. George Community Consolidated School District 258 will also be using an e-learning day.
Grant Park Community Unit School District 6 is using an e-learning day and announced that no activities will take place.
Momence Community Unit School District 1 is also using an e-learning day for all students and has canceled all after-school activities.
