Attic fire causes $20,000 in damage to Kankakee house

KANKAKEE — An attic fire caused $20,000 damage Tuesday to a home in the 700 block of Webster Circle West in Kankakee.

Kankakee Fire Chief Bryan LaRoche said firefighters were dispatched at approximately 7:15 p.m.

The resident called in the fire to the KanComm dispatch center. She was at work and was notified by the home security camera that a smoke alarm was activated, LaRoche said.

“On our arrival, we found smoke coming from the roof, LaRoche said.

The fire was contained to the attic of the home. There were no injuries, but one resident was displaced, LaRoche said.

The fire was started by an electrical wiring problem in the attic, LaRoche said.

Firefighters were on the scene for one hour, 15 minutes, LaRoche said.

Bourbonnais, Manteno, Momence and Kankakee Township departments assisted, LaRoche said.
