Prep Roundup: Kays, Boilermakers grab road conference wins; St. Anne wraps RVC play at 9-0

BOYS BASKETBALL

Kankakee 48, Thornton 43

The Kays picked up a Southland Conference win on the road Friday, extending their winning streak to four games. They improved to 16-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play.

Lincoln Williams led Kankakee with 13 points to go with seven rebounds and five steals. Jordan Davis scored 12 points for the Kays.

Bradley-Bourbonnais 47, Andrew 39

The Boilermakers got back on track Friday, snapping a three-game losing streak with a road win in SouthWest Suburban Conference play. They improved to 13-7 overall and 6-4 in the SWSC.

Three players scored in double figures for the Boilermakers, led by Rontez Smith with 16 points. Nick Allen had a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds while Gavin Kohl scored 10 points.

St. Anne 71, Grant Park 43

The Cardinals wrapped up River Valley Conference play with a perfect 9-0 record thanks to their home win over the Dragons on Friday. They improved to 17-6 overall while Grant Park fell to 7-13 overall and 5-4 in conference play.

For Grant Park, Blake Brown drained seven 3-pointers and led the Dragons with 27 points. Ethan Barnas knocked down three 3-pointers to finish with nine points.

No stats were immediately available for St. Anne.

Central 65, Donovan 56

The Comets won their RVC finale against the Wildcats on Friday. Central improved to 8-1 in conference play with the win, their seventh conference win in a row, and 14-7 overall. Donovan fell to 3-15 overall and 2-6 in conference play with one RVC game to go.

Central had four players in double figures, led by Blake Chandler with 18 points and Perry Mason with 17 points. Jake Thompson had 14 points and Owen Rasmussen scored 11 points.

For Donovan, Brendan Hennieke scored a team-high 15 points. Jacob Onnen had 11 points while Collin Carlson had nine points and Braden Klecan had eight.

Beecher 63, Tri-Point 26

The Bobcats wrapped up RVC play with a win at home on Friday to finish 7-2 in conference play. They improved to 12-8 overall.

Three players scored in double figures for the Bobcats on Friday. Nico Fox had 12 points while Dominick DeFrank and Anthony Moran had 11 points apiece. Wences Baumgartner added eight points.

Gardner-South Wilmington 66, Illinois Lutheran 26

The Panthers picked up their third conference win of the season on Friday, with two of those wins coming in the last two games. They improved to 3-17 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

Josh Conger led the team with 12 points in what was a balanced scoring effort for the team. Cole Hampson had 11 points, Brock Emerson had 10 points and Leondre Kemp had nine points.

Manteno 52, Wilmington 49

The Panthers picked a narrow road win over the Wildcats in Illinois Central Eight play on Friday. The score was tied 35-35 entering the fourth quarter, and Manteno was able to pull ahead to improve to 13-9 overall and 6-2 in conference play. Wilmington fell to 13-8 (4-5).

Manteno was led by Ray Lee with 17 points. Andrew Norred was also in double figures with 10 points while Braden Campbell had nine points.

Wilmington also had two players in double figures, led by Ryan Nelson with 23 points. Lucas Rink had 11 points and Ryan Kettman had eight points.

Coal City 62, Peotone 61

The Coalers were up by 11 points at halftime in ICE play on Friday, but had to withstand a strong comeback attempt from the host Blue Devils to pick up the narrow victory. Coal City improved to 16-5 overall and 8-1 in ICE play with the win. Peotone fell to 6-12 (2-6).

Peotone was led by Ruben Velasco with 27 points and nine rebounds. Brandon Weiss was also in double figures with 18 points.

No stats were immediately available for Coal City.

Cissna Park 71, Chrisman 51

The Timberwolves snapped a four-game losing streak with Friday’s road win in Vermilion Valley Conference play. They improved to 6-14 overall and 2-6 in VVC play.

Seth Walder scored a game-high 32 points to lead Cissna Park, going 11-of-14 from the free-throw line. Dierks Neukomm also had a big night with 21 points.

St. Thomas More 45, Watseka 38

The Warriors dropped a road game in nonconference play on Friday, losing for just the second time in their last eight games. They fell to 8-12 overall on the season.

Payton Schaumburg led Watseka with 14 points, making four 3-pointers in the process. James Newell had eight points and Andrew Shoemaker had seven points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Heritage Christian 54, Trinity 28

The Eagles fell on the road to Heritage Christian on Friday, dropping to 0-13 on the season. No stats were immediately available for Trinity.
