NAPERVILLE — Riverside Healthcare’s President and CEO Phil Kambic has been elected to the board of trustees for the Illinois Health and Hospital Association.
Kambic gained a three-year term beginning Jan. 1. The IHA’s first board meeting was Friday.
The IHA board is the policymaking body for the association, which represents more than 200 Illinois hospitals and nearly 40 health systems.
“Over the years, Phil has made valuable contributions to IHA, serving as a trustee for many years and board chair in 2020,” said A.J. Wilhelmi, IHA president and CEO. “Phil’s extensive knowledge and experience will be instrumental as we work together to improve health care for all. We are thrilled to welcome him back to the IHA board.”
Kambic began his tenure as Riverside’s president and CEO in January 2006. He has held various leadership roles since 1985, including senior vice president and chief operating officer at Riverside.
“I look forward to continuing my involvement with the IHA,” Kambic said. “The work the IHA does is critical to insuring the people of Illinois get the best health care possible. There are many challenges, but working together, the IHA and health care organizations can be more effective in advocating for hospitals, patients and communities.”
Under Kambic’s leadership, Riverside has earned Magnet designation and two redesignations and received multiple IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospital Awards and 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospital Awards.
Riverside has expanded its physical presence and geographic footprint to four counties — Kankakee, Will, Iroquois and Grundy — and tripled its next asset size.
Kambic received a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Illinois University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Governors State University.
Kambic has a strong history of service on community and professional boards.
He previously chaired the boards for the Illinois Health and Hospital Association and Kankakee County Economic Development Association, and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
