Firefighters from the Kankakee Fire Department responded at approximately 1 p.m. Monday and found a small detached garage at 1155 S. Third Ave engulfed in flames.
The fire was called in by a neighbor down the street, reporting an explosion with fire and smoke, according to a news release from the Kankakee Fire Department.
An adjacent garage just north of the structure also suffered damage to its siding. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No injuries were reported, according to the release.
Estimated damage was $15,000 to the garage at 1155 S. Third Ave., which was determined to be a complete loss, according to the news release.
It was the second garage fire in as many weeks in the same south side Kankakee neighborhood. Firefighters responded on Jan. 27 to a garage fire in the 400 block of West Jeffery Street where a car was damaged by fire.
In the fire a week ago, the car was a total loss, and the garage sustained an estimated $15,000 in damages, Kankakee Fire Chief Bryan LaRoche said.
