Bradley-Bourbonnais 67, Sandburg 44: Not only did Boilermakers senior Nick Allen lead the team to a big SouthWest Suburban Conference win on Tuesday, he also reached a major career milestone.

Allen came into the game needing 16 points to set the program’s all-time scoring record. He reached that mark and then some, finishing with 23 points to solidify his place in the record books. He now has 1,478 points, putting him ahead of Micah Bradford’s 1,470.

Allen said that he knew there was a chance to set the record coming into the game, and once he made the record-breaking basket, it started to sink in.

“It was a surreal feeling,” he said. “Going into the game I knew I was close, but it’s something you don’t really think about until it happens. It’s super exciting.”

The closer he got to the record, however, Allen said his nerves started creeping into the picture.

“I had two more points to go and I got fouled, so one to tie it and one to break it,” he said. “I made the first free throw and missed the next one, and then I missed like three straight [shots] after that. I was a little nervous, but I eventually made one.”

Bradley-Bourbonnais head coach Ryan Kemp said he has seen Allen put in the work needed to be a great player since he started playing varsity as a freshman, and Allen’s new spot atop the all-time scoring list is proof of how hard he worked.

“It’s a culmination of all these things he’s done over his four years,” Kemp said. “Just the work he’s put in in the weight room, the extra time spent shooting, it all pays off. He’s just a unicorn, man. He’s different than most high school kids. He was fortunate to play all four years at the varsity level and have an opportunity to score a ton of points.”
