Coal City, Manteno keep pace atop ICE

Bishop McNamara 66, Yorkville Christian 55: No individual stats were immediately available for the Fightin’ Irish, who improved to 20-7 overall to record their third straight 20-win season.

Coal City 40, Reed-Custer 37: The Coalers narrowly avoided an upset loss to the Comets in Illinois Central Eight Conference play on the road Thursday, one that would have knocked them out of first place in the conference standings. Instead, Coal City improved to 21-7 overall and 12-1 in the ICE. Reed-Custer fell to 12-14 (5-8).

Coal City was led in scoring by Kylee Kennell with 14 points. She also had eight rebounds .Jori Tucker had nine points while Emma Rodriguez had eight points and 10 rebounds.

For Reed-Custer, Alyssa Wollenzien led the team with 10 points. Harlie Liebermann was close behind with nine points, while Gwen Steward had five points and 11 rebounds.

Manteno 41, Herscher 33: Manteno got an ICE win on the road over the Tigers on Thursday, their sixth win in a row. The Panthers improved to 22-4 overall and 11-1 in ICE play, while Herscher fell to 12-13 overall and 5-6 in the ICE.

Emily Horath led Manteno in scoring with 13 points to go with 10 rebounds and six steals. Lila Prindeville also had six steals and scored 11 points in the game. Maddie Gesky added six points and 15 rebounds.

Thursday was senior night for Herscher, and seniors Anistin Hackley, RyLyn Adams and Elsie Hoffman were the top three scorers for the Tigers. Hackley had 10 points, Adams had nine and Hoffman had six.

Watseka-Milford 64, Hoopeston 52: The Warriors picked up a win at home on Thursday in Vermilion Valley Conference play after dropping their previous conference game. They improved to 24-3 overall on the season and 9-1 in the VVC.

Three players scored in double figures for Watseka. Megan Martin led the team with 17 points, Christa Holohan had 16 points and Noelle Schroeder had 11 points. Kami Muehling added nine points and six rebounds.

Gardner-South Wilmington 54, Grace Christian 26: Thanks in large part to an explosive 22 points from Maddie Simms, the Panthers improved to 6-21 and 3-10 in the River Valley Conference. Madison Wright was also in double figures with 13 points while Grace Olsen chipped in seven points.

Kaitlyn Jorgensen had 14 points to pace Grace Christian (4-18, 3-11). Abby St. John chipped in six points.

Prairie Central 60, Beecher 35: Fresh off a conference win the night before, Beecher dropped a nonconference game on the road on Thursday. The Bobcats fell to 12-16 overall on the season with the loss.

Aylin Lagunas scored a team-high 17 points in the game. Ava Pattenaude had six points and Makenzie Johnson had five points.
