Grant Park man dies in vehicle-vs.-pedestrian crash

YELLOWHEAD TOWNSHIP – The Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office and Kankakee County Coroner’s Office are investigating a fatal collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian that occurred Thursday in Yellowhead Township.

The pedestrian, Jacob M. Riechers of Grant Park, was pronounced dead at the scene, Coroner Bob Gessner said.

The incident occurred at 5:54 p.m. near 12400 East 12000N Road. Gessner said that is one-half mile west of Route 1.

Upon arrival, Beecher paramedics treated Riechers.

The driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old Indiana resident, remained at the scene, the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Final cause of death is pending the results of toxicology tests, Gessner said.
