Suspect in Limestone shooting arrested in Iowa

KANKAKEE — A 24-year-old Manteno man wanted for allegedly shooting a man in Limestone in January was recently arrested in Iowa.

Kankakee County Sheriff Mike Downey said in a news release Gregory R. Tuggle was indicted by a Kankakee County grand jury Thursday for the charges of attempted murder in the first degree, home invasion and aggravated battery with a firearm.

Kankakee County Sheriff’s PIO Trent Bukowski said Tuggle was recently arrested in Union, Iowa, for drug charges and obstructing identification.

Union, Iowa, is located 323 miles west of downtown Kankakee.

Tuggle awaits extradition to Kankakee County, Downey said.

“I sincerely commend the dedication and hard work,” Downey said in the news release. “I also want to express my gratitude to the authorities in Union, Iowa, for their invaluable assistance and collaboration with our detectives in swiftly apprehending this dangerous individual.”

A Kankakee County arrest warrant was signed Jan. 31 by a circuit judge, according to court records.

On Jan. 27, Tuggle is accused of shooting a 19-year-old man multiple times at a residence in the 2500 block of West Illinois Route 17.

Deputies found the victim who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, the news release said.

The deputies were dispatched at approximately 8:30 p.m. to the residence for a report of shots fired.

The victim remains hospitalized in a Chicago-area facility, the news release said.
