KAMEG drug sweep nets nine arrests

KANKAKEE — Nine people were arrested Thursday during a warrant sweep based on Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group investigations.

According to an Illinois State Police news release, KAMEG agents were assisted by the U.S. Marshals Service, Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms, Kankakee Police Department, Manteno Police Department, Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office, Kankakee County Corrections, Tri-County Auto Theft Task Force and the Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office.

During the warrant sweep, the following individuals were arrested:

Kelvin D. Taylor, 34, of Kankakee, was arrested in the 400 block of East Locust Street., Kankakee, on a valid Kankakee County warrant for unlawful delivery of a controlled substance (cocaine) 1-15 grams, three counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance (heroin) 1-15 grams, and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance (fentanyl) 1-15 grams. Taylor also had a valid warrant for driving on a suspended license.

Carl Springer Jr., 45, of Kankakee, was arrested in the 500 block of East Chestnut Street, Kankakee, on a valid Kankakee County warrant for unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Leonela Varela, 43, of Kankakee, was arrested in the 300 block of South Washington Avenue, Kankakee, on a valid Kankakee County warrant for unlawful delivery of methamphetamine.

Roy Ferguson, 41, of Kankakee, was arrested in the 1000 block of East Bourbonnais Street, Kankakee, on a valid Kankakee County warrant for four counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance (cocaine) 1-15 grams.

Brian Collins, 58, of Kankakee, was arrested in the 1500 block of East Bourbonnais Street., Kankakee. Collins was encountered while agents were attempting to find another subject. Collins was found to have a valid extraditable warrant out of Williamson County, Illinois, for aiding/abetting/possessing/selling a stolen vehicle.

Victor Perez-Garcia, 35, of Kankakee, was arrested in the 400 block of South Greenwood Avenue, Kankakee, on a valid Kankakee County warrant for unlawful delivery of methamphetamine 15-100 grams. Upon his arrest, Perez-Garcia was found to be in possession of approximately 11.7 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Perez-Garcia was additionally charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

Lashone Simms, 39, of Kankakee, was arrested in the 600 block of North Harrison Avenue, Kankakee, on a valid Kankakee County warrant for three counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance (cocaine) 1-15 grams.

Danielle Greer, 48, of Bradley, was arrested in the 100 block of North Jackson Avenue, Bradley, on a valid Kankakee County warrant for three counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance (cocaine) 1-15 grams.

Lestat Sutherland, 20, of Pembroke Township, was arrested in the South 2000 block of 13000E Road, Pembroke Township, on a valid Kankakee County warrant for two counts of armed violence.
