Fall 2021 Kane County Chronicle All-Area Football Team

Here is the Kane County Chronicle All-Area football team. Considerations were made with coach input. Schools in the Chronicle coverage area are: Batavia, Burlington Central, Geneva, Kaneland, Marmion, St. Charles East, St. Francis and St. Charles North.

First Team Defense

Sammy Atkins, St. Francis, senior, linebacker

The Metro Suburban Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Atkins led the team in tackles with 89, 43 assists, 12 tackles for loss, five sacks, seven quarterback hurries, one forced fumble, two interceptions and three pass breakups.

Jacob Bottarini, Marmion, senior, linebacker

The Defensive Player of Year in the CCL White Division, Bottarini was a Class 5A All-State Coaches Association first team selection. Bottarini had 76 Tackles, six for loss, four interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Ryan Calcagno, St. Francis, senior, defensive back

A University of St. Thomas recruit, Calcagno had 27 solo tackles, 18 assisted tackles, four interceptions including a pick-six and seven pass breakups for a team-high.

Ivan Erickson, Marmion, junior, defensive end

The mammoth 6-foot-6, 230-pounder had 70 tackles, four sacks, 15 tackles for-loss and one fumble recovery.

Paolo Gennarelli, St. Charles North, senior, defensive/offensive tackle

While commanding a lot of double teams on the line, Gennarelli, an Army recruit, had 31 tackles and five quarterback hurries while still earning Coaches Association Class 7A first team recognition.

Tyler Jansey, Batavia, junior, linebacker

Jansey had 88 tackles, 16 for loss, six sacks and eight quarterback hurries for the Bulldogs, who went undefeated in the DuKane Conference.

Batavia sophomore Tyler Jansey and the Bulldogs are set to play Geneva this Friday at NIU's Huskie Stadium. Jansey's older brother Michael played on the NIU field in 2017 when Batavia won the Class 7A state championship.

TJ McMillen, St. Francis, junior, defensive tackle/center

Was a force on both ends of the ball, compiling 55 tackles and 12 tackles for a loss. McMillen recorded 41 pancakes while playing three positions on the offensive line.

Mason Pawelko, Geneva, senior, defensive back

Pawelko was third on the Vikings’ defense with 59 tackles, three for loss and four interceptions.

Anthony Roberts, Batavia, senior, defensive back

Roberts, an Indiana State recruit, had 29 tackles, 13 passes defended and two interceptions for DuKane Conference champion Batavia.

Jack Sadowsky, Batavia, junior, linebacker

Sadowsky, a one-two punch with Jansey, had 81 total tackles, 20 1/2 for-loss, 5 1/2 sacks and 16 quarterback hurries for the Bulldogs, who went undefeated in the DuKane Conference.

Gavin Sarvis, Burlington Central, senior, linebacker/running back

The Fox Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Sarvis had 93 total tackles, 14 for loss, nine quarterback pressures, five sacks and pass breakups apiece and two interceptions and forced fumbles each.

Tyler Sapit, Batavia, senior, defensive end

Batavia’s top defensive lineman, Sapit had 59 tackles, 22 for loss, with 4 1/2 sacks and 29 quarterback hurries.

First Team Offense

Ryan Boe, Batavia, sophomore, quarterback

The top young quarterback in the DuKane Conference, Boe piloted Batavia’s offense with 1,481 passing yards, completing 66% of his passes, and had a 16-to-4 touchdown to interception ratio.

Jalen Buckley, Batavia, senior, running back

The Kane County Chronicle Player of the Year, Buckley ran for 1,194 rushing yards, averaged nearly 120 per game, had five games of over 100 yards rushing and had 16 rushing touchdowns for a team that went undefeated in the DuKane Conference and was a Class 7A coaches association first-teamer.

Troyer Carlson, Kaneland, sophomore, quarterback

Carlson, a Class 5A coaches association honorable mention selection, threw for 2,790 passing yards, had a 64.3 completion percentage with 36 touchdowns to just seven interceptions.

Adam Criter, St. Francis, senior, wide receiver

The Metro Suburban Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Criter finished with 96 rushes for 573 yards and 13 touchdowns, plus 21 receptions and 472 yards and three touchdowns.

Jerred Durian, Marmion, senior, lineman

An all-state coaches association Class 5A Honorable Mention, Durian gave up no sacks all year; his offense racked up 3,419 total yards and finished his career as a three-year starter.

Matt Harris, Marmion, senior, lineman

A three year starter, Harris was an All- CCL White Conference first team selection as a senior. Harris and Durian both starred on the line for the Cadets.

Sam Gagne, Kaneland, senior, wideout

Gagne, a Class 5A first-teamer, had an eye-popping 61 catches for 1,146 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Dane Pardridge, Marmion, senior, wideout

The NIU recruit had 497 yards on 27 receptions, five touchdowns and averaged 18.4 yards-per-catch.

Carter Powelson, Geneva, senior, running back

The soul of Vikings’ offensive resurgence and first playoff appearance in six years, Powelson had 196 rushing attempts for 855 yards (4.3 average) and six touchdowns.

Spencer Prats, Batavia, senior, lineman

One of Batavia’s top offensive lineman, Prats was part of a group that averaged 31 points per game, 137 passing yards and 186 rushing yards.

Drew Surges St. Charles North, junior, running back/linebacker

A jack of all trades for the North Stars, Surges took snaps however he needed to, whether at linebacker, running back or part of the punt team. Surges had 522 rushing yards, 10 rushing touchdowns, 54 tackles defensively and two sacks.

AJ Sanders, Batavia, senior, running back/receiver/defensive back

Sanders was everywhere: running back, slot receiver, defensive back, returner, etc. Sanders had 287 rushing yards, 403 receiving yards, six combined touchdowns and amassed 837 all-purpose yards.
