The 2021 SVM Football All-Area Team

Sauk Valley Media names its 2021 Fall Football All-Area Team

FIRST TEAM

Alejandro Arellano, Sterling sr. OL/DL – A Western Big 6 first-team all-conference selection, Arellano helped pave the way for a 1,000-yard rusher and an offense that ran for 2,404 yards and threw for 830, scoring 38 total touchdowns.

Matthew Beltran, Forreston sr. RB/DB – An IHSFCA 1A all-stater and unanimous all-NUIC pick, Beltran led a balanced Cardinals rushing attack with 794 yards and 13 TDs on 94 carries. He also had 4 catches for 99 yards and 2 TDs, and finished with 73 tackles (32 solo), 3 TFLs and an INT.

Brennan Blaine, Amboy-LaMoille so. TE/DL – An I8FA all-state selection, Blaine caught 27 passes for 692 yards and 12 TDs. He also wrecked opposing offense, recording 75 tackles (35 solo) and 14 sacks.

Booker Cross, Rock Falls sr. RB/LB/KR – A unanimous first-team all-Big Northern selection, Cross did it all for the Rockets. He ran for 881 yards and 10 TDs on 119 rushes, and also had 6 catches for 121 yards and 2 TDs. He was a dangerous kick returner, and also finished with 50 tackles, 2 INTs and a fumble recovery on defense.

Daniel Dominguez, Oregon sr. RB/LB – A first-team all-Big Northern pick, Dominguez ran 182 times for 953 yards and 8 TDs, and also anchored the Hawks defense from his linebacker spot.

Jason Farnham Jr., Sterling sr. DL – The Western Big 6 Defensive MVP and 5A all-state honorable mention selection by the IHSFCA, Farnham was the player in the trenches that opposing teams game-planned around. He also served as a H-back on offense in short-yardage situations.

Kolby Franks, Erie-Prophetstown sr. QB – The 2021 SVM Player of the Year and an IHSFCA 2A firs-team all-state selection, Franks amassed more than 2,500 total yards and attacked opponents equally proficiently with his arm and legs. He ran 190 times for 1,566 yards and 24 scores, and completed 59 of 86 passes for 975 yards and 9 TDs, with 8 INTs.

Avery Grenoble, Polo jr. RB/LB – An I8FA all-state selection and first-team 8-man all-conference pick on both sides of the ball, Soltow led the Marcos with 200 rushes for 1,448 yards and 25 TDs and also added 12 catches for 281 yards and 3 TDs. He also led the team in tackles and TFLs from his linebacker spot.

Jacob Gusse, Dixon sr. WR – A first-team all-Big Northern Conference pick, Gusse was second on the team with 28 catches for 369 yards and 7 TDs.

Kellen Henze, Eastland-Pearl City sr. QB/DB/P – An honorable mention QB and a firs-team punter on the NUIC all-conference team, Henze led the Wildcatz in passing and rushing. He was 66-for-11 for 619 yards, 3 TDs & 7 INTs through the air, and ran 100 times for 520 yards and 5 TDs.

Jacob Jones, Fulton sr. RB/WR/LB – A first-team all-NUIC pick on defense and an honorable mention selection on offense, Jones had 108 rushes for 661 yards and 7 TDs, and also caught 41 passes for 470 yards and 4 TDs. Defensively as an edge rusher, he recorded 93 tackles (53 solo), 10 TFLs, 2 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries.

Tucker Lindenmeyer, Amboy-LaMoille jr. QB/DB – A force on both sides of the ball, Lindenmeyer earned honorable mention I8FA all-state honors after throwing for 986 yards and 16 TDs, with only 4 INTs on 48-for-92 passing. He also led the Clippers with 114 rushes for 875 yards and 12 more scores, and finished with 67 tackles (31 solo) and 6 INTs from his safety spot.

Tyler Merdian, Polo sr. QB/DE – The senior leader under center for the 8-man state champion Marcos, Merdian was an I8FA all-state pick and team leader on both sides of the ball. He ran for 270 yards and 5 TDs on 45 carries, and threw for 811 yards, 11 TDs and 3 INTs on 39-for-68 passing, and served s an edge rusher and linebacker on defense.

Mason Misfeldt, Erie-Prophetstown sr. RB/WR/LB – A first-team all-TRAC West player at the “flex” position, Misfeldt was a Swiss Army knife for the Panthers. He ran 28 times for 293 yards and 2 TDs, caught 14 passes for 349 yards and 5 TDs, and led E-P with 127 tackles (61 solo) to go with 3 sacks and 3 fumble recoveries.

Ashton Nobis, Milledgeville sr. RB/LB – An I8FA all-state pick, Nobis ran for 762 yards and 10 TDs on 90 carries, and also led the Missiles with 29 catches for 319 yards and 8 scores. He finished with 68 tackles and 2 TFLs from his linebacker spot.

Connor Nye, Milledgeville so. QB – An I8FA all-state pick, Nye was a dual-threat, passing for 1,385 yards, 2 TDs and 5 INTs on 83-for-128 passing, and rushing for 470 yards and 10 TDs on 74 carries. He also caught an 8-yard TD pass.

Mason Randick, Dixon sr. WR – A Big Northern all-conference first-teamer, Randick led a potent Dixon passing attack with 37 catches for 483 yards and 10 TDs.

Will Rude, Newman sr. DL – A force on the interior of the Comets’ defensive line, Rude was a first-team all-TRAC East pick. He had 54 tackles and 8 sacks, and also had a 4-yard TD run in his final game against Hall in Week 7 before missing the rest of the season and the playoffs after hand surgery.

Connor Sibley, Erie-Prophetstown sr. RB/LB – The Panthers’ second option after their QB, Sibley ran for 905 yards and 9 TDs on 127 carries, and also caught a team-high 19 passes for 207 yards and a TD. He also had 88 tackles (40 solo), 1.5 sacks and an interception.

Brock Soltow, Polo so. RB/DB – An I8FA all-state pick, Soltow ran for 1,410 yards and 23 TDs on 152 rushes, and also caught 11 passes for 213 yards and 2 TDs. He led the Marcos’ defense with 4 INTs as a defensive back.

Antonio Tablante, Sterling jr. RB – A Western Big 6 first-team all-conference back, Tablante became the Warriors’ workhorse after a rash of injuries in the backfield. He carried the ball 186 times – 105 more than the next-closest Sterling running back – for 1,092 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Keegan VanKampen, Fulton sr. RB/LB – A first-team pick on the IHSFCA 1A all-state team, VanKampen was a first-team all-NUIC selection on both offense and defense. He rushed 160 times for 1,054 yards and 19 TDs, and also finished with 132 tackls (66 solo), 14 TFLs and an INT.

Ethan Van Landuit, Newman sr. RB/LB – A first-team all-TRAC East linebacker, Van Landuit also earned honorable mention IHSFCA 2A all-state honors. He rushed 112 times for 590 yards and 8 TDs, and also caught 9 passes for 87 yards and a score. He led the Comets with 119 tackles, and also had an INT and a fumble recovery on defense.

Marcus Williams, Newman sr. RB – A first-team all-TRAC East running back despite battling through injuries all season, Williams led the Comets with 744 yards and 2 TDs on 68 rushes, averaging 10.94 yards per carry. He also caught 3 passes for 70 yards and a score.

SECOND TEAM

Bryce Aude, Milledgeville jr. WR/DB/KR – An I8FA all-state pick, Aude tied for fifth in the area with 28 catches, and was third with 605 yards and 8 TDs. He also had 38 tackles, a TFL and 3 INTs.

Nick Ballard, Erie-Prophetstown sr. OL/DL – Unanimous all-TRAC West pick as the Panthers’ best defensive lineman, Ballard was also named honorable mention all-conference on the offensive line. He had 41 tackles, 4.5 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries.

Cooper Blake, Polo sr. C – Paved the away for 3,781 yards and 61 TDs on the ground for the I8FA state champs. He started at every offensive line position during his career, and was an all-conference selection.

Jacob Fiorello, Forreston sr. RB/DB – Second-leading rusher for the Cardinals with 619 yards and 7 TDs on 95 carries, he also caught 4 passes for 78 yards and 2 TDs. He finished with 37 tackles (26 solo) and was an honorable mention all-NUIC pick on both sides of the ball.

Brock Foster, Bureau Valley sr. WR/DB/KR – Had 15 catches for 253 yards and 2 TDs, and also returned a kickoff for a score. He had 540 tackles and 2 INTs as an honorable mention all-TRAC East pick.

Mason Fox, Forreston sr. OL/DL – A first-team all-NUIC player on both offense and defense, Fox was the Cardinals’ best offensive lineman while also finishing with 42 tackles, 3 TFLs and a sack on defense.

Jacob Gaither, Dixon sr. QB/DB – Missed much of the season with a broken finger, but still finished second on the team in tackles and had 414 yards passing, 321 yards rushing, and 9 total TDs as a first-team all-Big Northern pick.

Jase Grunder, Erie-Prophetstown jr. RB/LB – Second on the Panthers in tackles with 109 (59 solo), he also had 2 INTs, 2 fumble recoveries, and 1.5 sacks as a first-team all-TRAC West selection. He ran for 422 yards and 9 TDs on 55 carries as a running back.

Levi Hardy, Bureau Valley sr. RB/LB – The Storm’s bruising fullback ran for 411 yards and 8 TDs on 102 carries, and also finished with 29 tackles and 4 TFLs from his linebacker spot. He was named second-team all-TRAC East on both sides of the ball.

Maddux Hayden, Eastland-Pearl City jr. RB/LB – The Wildcatz’s second-leading rusher with 77 carries for 401 yards and 7 TDs, he also caught 8 passes for 81 yards, and finished with 34 tackles and 1 TFL on defense.

Joey Huizenga, Fulton sr. OL/DL – A three-year starter on the O-line, Huizenga was an all-NUIC first-team pick on offense and an honorable mention selection on defense. He had 82 tackles (50 solo), 13 TFLs, 4 sacks and a fumble recovery.

Zavion Johnson, Dixon sr. RB/DB – Led the Dukes with 668 yards and 7 TDs on only 57 rushes in earning first-team all-Big Northern honors after missing the first 2 1/2 games.

AJ Lawrence, Sterling jr. OL – A first-team all-Western Big 6 O-lineman, Lawrence helped pave the way for a 1,000-yard rusher and an offense that ran for 2,404 yards and threw for 830, scoring 38 total touchdowns.

Patrick Lower, Fulton sr. QB – Finished second in the area with 1,266 passing yards and 14 TDs, completing 99 of 138 pass attempts while throwing only 5 INTs. He was named honorable mention all-NUIC despite missing three games with an injured throwing shoulder.

Hunter Luyando, Newman jr. RB/LB – Had 76 tackles and 6 sacks, while also rushing 40 times for 227 yards and 3 TDs.

Brock Mason, Fulton sr. WR/DB – Finished tied with teammate Jacob Jones for the most catches in the area with 41, he had the most receiving yards with a school-record 711, and was second with 9 TD catches. He also had 107 tackles (56 solo), 2 sacks, 11 TFLs and a team-high 4 INTs (tied for second in the area) as a defensive back. He was all-NUIC first team at DB and second team at receiver.

Levi McKinley, Amboy-LaMoille so. LB – Led the Clippers with 104 tackles (46 solo) to go with 3 INTs and 3 fumble recoveries.

Jaden Michlig, Bureau Valley sr. RB/LB – Rushed for 884 yards and 8 TDs on 119 carries, and also had 38 tackles, 5 TFLs and an INT as a second-team all-TRAC East pick on both sides of the ball.

Gabe Padilla, Newman jr. RB/LB – Had 79 tackles and 5 sacks, and also rushed 49 times for 276 yards and 2 TDs.

Wyatt Queckboerner, Polo sr. TE/LB – One of the few two-way players for the I8FA state champs, Queckboerner was second on the team in tackles as an all-conference D-lineman, and caught 4 passes for 63 yards and a TD while holding the edge of the offensive line.

Carter Ryan, Sterling sr. WR – Despite battling injuries all season, Ryan still managed to earn second-team all-Western Big 6 honors and lead the Golden Warriors with 25 catches for 363 yards and 4 TDs.

Tyler Shaner, Dixon so. QB – Thrust into starting role after Gaither’s injury days before the first game, Shaner excelled under center. He was 73-for-115 passing for 906 yards, 16 TDs and 3 INTs, and also ran 84 times for 494 yards and 5 TDs, earning second-team all-Big Northern honors.

Carson Strating, Morrison so. RB – Led the Mustangs in rushes (204), yards (846) and TDs (5), and broke the single-game school record for carries with 38 against Hall (he had 181 yards & 3 TDs in that game). He was a second-team all-TRAC West selection.

Mitchell White, Dixon sr. RB/LB – The Dukes’ leader in tackles after starting every game at linebacker, White also ran for 123 yards and 5 TDs on just 18 carries. He was named honorable mention all-Big Northern.
