Jacobs coasts past Dundee-Crown for 6th win

Canty, Ludlum both run for 100 yards, two TDs

CARPENTERSVILLE – Nasir Canty endured two losing seasons along with a shortened junior season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

All the tough times have changed for the better for the Jacobs senior.

Rushing for 119 yards on eight carries with two touchdowns in less than three quarters, Canty helped lead the Golden Eagles to a 47-14 victory over Dundee-Crown in Fox Valley Conference action Friday.

The Eagles, who last were in the playoffs in 2017, ended the regular season with a 6-3 record.

“We were predicted to go 3-6 and that really fired us up,” Canty said. “We flipped the narrative. The first three years were tough, but we all bought into coach [Brian] Zimmerman. We played tough all season and are looking forward to the playoffs.”

Zimmerman was happy for Canty and the seniors who are making their first trip to the postseason.

“Naz has gone through a lot during his career,” Zimmerman said. “I am so happy for him and the seniors. They are a very tight group. All the kids have bought in. We are looking forward to the playoffs. We will get on a bus next week and do the best we can.”

Jacobs, which ran for 344 yards, got 116 yards on 10 carries from Ben Ludlum, who scored touchdowns on runs of 39 and 5 yards.

Mike Almeda rushed seven times for 79 yards, which included a touchdown run of 40 yards.

Jacobs quarterback Max Benner completed 4-of-8 passes for 67 yards. Sophomore tight end Grant Stec had two catches for 37 yards, while split end Nick True had two catches for 30 yards.

The Jacobs defense, which registered two safeties, held D-C to only 35 yards rushing.

Chargers sophomore quarterback Zach Randl completed 9-of-15 passes for 122 yards, which included a 25-yard scoring strike to his brother, Drew. Hunter Guyon led the Chargers (0-9, 0-9) with four catches for 62 yards, while Drew Randl added three catches for 35 yards. Anthony Aguilar caught two passes for 25 yards.
