In July, this 10-year-old center participated in the Social Justice Service Challenge promoted by the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago.
Youth and adult volunteers prepared and delivered toiletry kits to Daybreak Center in Joliet. The mosque also sponsored a drive-thru food pantry at the mosque on July 29.
Zulfie Khan, the center’s president, said serving the spiritual needs of its members is still a big priority.
But so is meeting the needs of the greater community.
“They’re our brothers and sisters in humanity,” Khan said.
