Volunteer Buck Wallace, dressed in early 1700s era clothing, talks how Native Americans discovered maple syrup while teaching about the history of maple sugaring during the McHenry County Conservation District’s annual Festival of the Sugar Maples at Coral Woods Conservation Area, 7400 Somerset Drive in Marengo. People were able to walk through the woods and learn about history of maple sugaring and the evolution of the sap collection process during the one-hour, half-mile hike through a woodland trail on Monday, March 6, 2023. The festival continues on March 11, 12 and 13, and signing up for a tour time slot is required. (Gregory Shaver — gshaver@shawmedia.com/Gregory Shaver - gshaver@shawmed)
