Photos: Veterans, Boy Scouts host flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day in Peru

Boyscout Evan Hall tosses an American Flag into a burning cauldron during a Flag Retirement Ceremony on Friday, June 14, 2024 at Veterans Park in Peru. The ceremony always takes place on Flag Day. It began as a Eagle Scout project for area boy scouts about 30 years ago. Boy Scouts from Peru's Troop 123 and Peru Cub Scouts from Pack 3709 were on hand to help with the ceremony. When an American Flag gets torn and tattered, Flag etiquette requires it to be proper disposed in a burning cauldron.
