Photos: Veterans, Boy Scouts host flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day in Peru

Boy Scout Evan Hall tosses an American flag into a burning cauldron during a flag retirement ceremony Friday, June 14, 2024, at Veterans Park in Peru. The ceremony takes place on Flag Day. It began as an Eagle Scout project for area Boy Scouts about 30 years ago. Boy Scouts from Peru's Troop 123 and Peru Cub Scouts from Pack 3709 were on hand to help with the ceremony. When an American flag gets torn and tattered, flag etiquette requires it to be properly disposed in a burning cauldron. (Scott Anderson)
